"Doctor Gordon is awesome. I love how he spends time telling you what he is going to do with your treatment. Dr.Gordan put 8 crowns on my front teeth today and he did an amazing job. He was very careful to not cause much pain. He took extra time and care seating each crown to be sure they fit perfectly. Is This a Dental Emergency?

Not sure if your situation requires immediate care? Here is a quick guide to common dental emergencies that should be treated as soon as possible.

Severe Toothache

Unbearable pain that prevents you from sleeping or working is a clear sign of a serious underlying issue.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Time is critical. Gently rinse the tooth, try to place it back in the socket, and call us immediately.

Chipped or Broken Tooth

A fractured tooth can expose sensitive nerves and lead to infection if not repaired promptly.

Lost Filling or Crown

Leaves your tooth vulnerable to damage and decay. Keep the restoration if possible and see us right away.

Dental Abscess

A pimple-like bump on your gums indicating a severe infection that can spread if left untreated.

Bleeding Gums & Trauma

Soft tissue injuries to the lips, cheeks, or gums that result in bleeding that will not easily stop.

Swollen Jaw

Can indicate an infection in your gums, salivary glands, or tooth root that needs immediate antibiotics or drainage.

Broken Braces or Wires

Poking wires can cut your cheeks and gums. We can clip the wire or adjust the bracket to restore comfort.

Object Caught in Teeth

If flossing doesn't dislodge it, do not use sharp objects. See us safely remove it without damaging your gums.

Available for prompt care. Do not wait if you are in pain.

What to do right now

Follow these immediate steps to protect your oral health and relieve pain before you arrive at our clinic.

1

Call our office immediately

Reach out so our team can prepare for your arrival and give you specific guidance over the phone.

3

Control any bleeding

Apply firm but gentle pressure with clean gauze or a damp cloth to stop bleeding from the injury site.

5

Keep knocked-out teeth moist

Hold the tooth by the crown (top), avoid touching the root, and place it in milk or lightly salted water.

2

Keep the area clean

Gently rinse your mouth with warm water to clear out blood, debris, and prevent infection from setting in.

4

Manage any swelling

Apply a cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a towel to the outside of your cheek to reduce inflammation.

6

Take appropriate pain relief

Use an over-the-counter pain reliever like acetaminophen, but avoid applying aspirin directly to the gums.

Heartfelt Stories from Our Patients:

FAQ About Emergency Dentistry

FAQ About

Emergency Dentistry

What is considered a dental emergency?

A dental emergency involves severe pain, bleeding, or trauma to the teeth or gums that requires immediate professional attention. This includes knocked-out teeth, severe infections, or uncontrollable bleeding.

What should I do if my tooth is knocked out?

Hold the tooth by the crown (top), gently rinse it without scrubbing, and try to place it back in the socket. If not possible, store it in milk and call us immediately.

How can I manage severe toothache pain at home?

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water, gently floss to remove any trapped food, and take over-the-counter pain relievers. Avoid putting aspirin directly on the gums.

Is a chipped or broken tooth an emergency?

It depends on the severity. If it causes pain or leaves sharp edges, it is an emergency. Minor chips can often wait a day or two, but still require an evaluation to prevent further damage.

What if my crown or filling falls out?

Keep the crown safe. You can use dental cement or sugarless gum to temporarily cover the exposed tooth, but see us as soon as possible to prevent further structural damage.

Are bleeding gums a sign of a dental emergency?

Minor bleeding during brushing is common, but severe, unexplained, or continuous bleeding after an extraction or physical trauma is an emergency that needs immediate care.

What should I do if I have a dental abscess or swelling?

An abscess is a serious infection that can spread rapidly if left untreated. Call us immediately. In the meantime, rinse with mild salt water to help ease the discomfort.

Can I go to the emergency room for a dental emergency?

ERs can manage severe pain or swelling and prescribe antibiotics, but they typically cannot pull teeth or perform restorative dental work. It is always best to see an emergency dentist directly.

How quickly can I get an appointment for an emergency?

We prioritize dental emergencies and always strive to offer same-day appointments during our business hours to relieve your pain and address the issue promptly.

Do you offer financing for emergency dental procedures?

Yes, we understand that emergencies are unexpected. We offer flexible payment options and work with various financing partners to ensure you get the care you need without delay.
